Join Hands to Uplift DUAO Schools

Every child deserves the chance to learn, dream, and thrive. Through DUAO’s volunteer programs, you can be part of a life-changing movement, helping community-based schools across Dagoretti grow stronger, brighter, and more sustainable.

Preparation Tips

As you prepare to volunteer with DUAO, here are a few essentials to help you feel ready, confident, and comfortable during your stay.

What to Pack

Pack light, breathable clothing, comfortable shoes, and personal hygiene essentials. Don’t forget your reusable water bottle and a warm smile as it’ll go a long way!

Health & Vaccination

Make sure your vaccinations are current, and carry mosquito repellent, sunscreen, and a small first-aid kit. Staying healthy keeps your focus where it matters—on the kids.

Mindset

Come with an open heart and a flexible spirit. Volunteering with DUAO is not just service, it’s connection, learning, and shared joy with a community that will welcome you like family.

Getting There. The Journey Begins

Your DUAO adventure starts the moment you set off. Whether you’re traveling by road or air, this journey is more than just miles, it’s the start of something meaningful.

Travel Options

Volunteers can reach Dagoretti easily by road or air. We recommend arriving at least one day before your program begins to settle in. Shuttle services from Nairobi’s city center make the trip smooth and scenic, your first glimpse of Kenya’s warm welcome.

Nearby Accommodation

Choose from cozy hostels, eco-lodges, or the warmth of a local host family within 10 km of our partner schools. Staying close to the community lets you experience everyday Kenyan life, authentic, welcoming, and unforgettable.

The Road to Change Starts Here

Safety & Wellbeing

Your safety and wellbeing are our top priority. At DUAO, we ensure every volunteer feels secure, respected, and cared for so you can focus fully on making a difference.

Emergency Contacts

For immediate assistance, dial the local emergency number 999. Your on-site coordinator is available 24/7 at +254 722 395 465 to support you with any urgent needs.

Local Customs

Kenya is known for its warmth and respect. Dress modestly, greet people politely, and always ask before taking photos. A simple smile and courtesy go a long way in building trust.

General Safety

Avoid traveling alone at night, keep valuables secure at your accommodation, and stay in touch with your volunteer coordinator. Together, we create a safe and positive experience for every participant.

When you feel safe, you can give your best and that’s when real change happens.

Why Pay to Volunteer?

Transparency matters and here’s where your contribution goes.

These funds help cover essential logistics such as:

  • Food and accommodation
  • Airport pickup and orientation
  • Transportation to project sites
